ARLINGTON, VA — Protecting Americans Action Fund, the organization committed to electing prosecutors who enforce our laws, is deeply troubled by Virginia Democrat Jay Jones’ comments fantasizing about shooting a Republican lawmaker. PAAF Chairman Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin and prosecutors and law enforcement leaders across the Commonwealth are denouncing Jay Jones’ actions.
Between the murder of Charlie Kirk, the attempted assassination of President Trump, the threats against Justice Brett Kavanaugh, and the recent political violence in Minnesota and Pennsylvania, this type of rhetoric and behavior cannot be tolerated in American politics.
PAAF Chairman and Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin:
“These comments by Jay Jones, candidate for Virginia AG, are beyond disturbing. They are wholly unacceptable of anyone holding elected office. Especially in light of recent events, Virginians should reject this violent rhetoric & vote for Jason Miyares.”
Spotsylvania County Commonwealth’s Attorney Ryan Mehaffey:
“Jason Miyares is the People’s Protector. Jay Jones is clearly not.”
Smyth County Commonwealth’s Attorney Bucky Blevins & Sheriff Chip Shuler:
“For the good of the Commonwealth and the credibility of our justice system, we believe Mr. Jones should withdraw his candidacy. Virginians deserve an Attorney General who commands respect through conduct, not controversy.”
Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney Colin Stolle:
“Faith in the criminal justice system stems from one simple principle – trust. The Attorney General’s decisions and policies affect thousands of victims, witnesses and defendants. The public must believe that they can trust that individual to do the right thing. Jay Jones’ disgusting comments about shooting political rivals and killing their children clearly demonstrate that he cannot be trusted in such an important role.
Virginians deserve a leader they can rely on to always do the right thing. We deserve someone who fights to keep us safe everyday – a leader who has demonstrated that we can trust him as our Attorney General. That leader is Jason Miyares.”
Grayson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Brandon Boyles:
“No sane person should ever have thoughts of killing an adversary, and wishing death upon their children, much less a candidate for Attorney General of Virginia. This is beyond disturbing, and the lack of any genuine response from Jay Jones and the other candidates from his party shows cowardice not leadership.”
